First Day

The first day was amazing! We got a lot of work done! The first thing that we did was pound a bunch of steel rods into the ground along a suspended rope. This rope was the size of kite string and was pulled tight in order to make the forms which we were working on, square. After that, we put a bunch of gray, plastic, rectangular tubes. These let the foundation be well ventilated of water and radon. It's very important that the top of the gray plastic tubes touch the string so everything can be level. Then you do a second footing row of tubes to make the border for where the cement will go. After you screw all those into their appropriate anchors, you put "rebar chairs" (thin metal rods with feet) in between the columns. After you put the rebar on the chairs, the final step is to pour the concrete into the forms. That's all that we did today and I'm looking very forward to the day yet again tomorrow.
